Getting down to gastronomic basics

If you’ve looked at ourĀ places to eat page you’ll realise that Abdul and I love eating out. It seems that every week there is a wonderful new restaurant opening and I can honestly say – after plenty of practise! – that the level of cuisine on offer in Marrakech is as varied and good as any I’ve eaten anywhere, inside or outside Morocco. But I still like to get down to basics occasionally with a bite at one of the food stalls in Jmaa el Fna.

Derek Workman is an English journalist who lives in Spain, and has been travelling to Morocco quite a bit over the last few months. He’s stayed with us a few times, and has agreed to let us use some of his articles on our site and, mainly because we’re rushed off our feet here, to write the occasional blog. When he last stayed with us in June he joined the hungry hoards on the wooden benches in Jmaa el Fna, and his article, The Restaurant at the End of the World, really brings feel of the place to life.
